The Managers
Matthew Magowan
Team Manager
At any one time, there's a hundred different things going on within our Formula Student team, and it's the Team Managers job to pull them all together.
“Knowledge transfer is key within our Team. After all, it’s the junior Team members that will be running the show in the future, hence one of my personal aims for this year has been to spend time with new members to ensure a smooth transition period come the new racing season.”
Matthew is a second year Mechanical Engineering Student and the current Team Manager of the Formula Student team at Liverpool John Moores University. This is his third year as part of the team having previous roles on the Media team and as the System Head for Brakes, Wheels and Tyres. Engineering has allowed mankind to do things otherwise though to be impossible. It is the forefront of continually pushing and redefining the boundaries between concept and reality. The Formula Student competition provides a practical way to learn the skills required to combat any obstacle in a challenging and exciting way.
Alex Overton
Deputy team ManageR
Now in his 3rd year with the team, Alex is the current assistant team manager. Not having responsibilities as concrete as other roles, he helps to coordinate different areas of the team and provides technical and managerial advice where it’s needed most. Alex also organises the team media and sponsorships sub-teams, and oversees the Special Projects & Future Concepts area of the team, which allows for exploration of outside-the-box ideas.
His life goal is, simply put, to win FSUK (specifically 2020).
Mechanical
Challum Chapple
Head of Mechanical
Now in his 4th year with the team, Challum is the teams Mechanical Systems Lead, having been head of Driver interaction and miscellaneous Systems last year. He is completing his final year of an integrated master’s degree in mechanical and marine engineering and is hoping to work in the marine heavy engineering industry in the future, this is an area he already has experience.
When not in the workshop, Challum spends his time socialising and teaches Judo (achieving black belt in 2016) at the University of Liverpool. He is also a passionate surfer having spent time surfing in South Africa, the UK and USA. Challum is originally from Carlisle, Cumbria and takes pride in being the northernmost team member.
