LJMU E-Racing is a student-led team, competing in Formula Student UK each year. Students design and build a single seater race car, and the car is raced at Silverstone against other Formula Student teams from across the UK and the world.
The team specialises in electric race cars, and the car is produced and assembled in house in our dedicated workshop at the Byrom Street campus.
The team is supported by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at LJMU.
What is Formula Student?

We are particularly on the lookout for students whose courses relate to engineering, but also have roles available in finance, marketing, business and management! A lot of learning is done on the job as a member of the team so don’t worry if you have no experience, just a passion for building cars and a willingness to have a go is all you need!

Involvement in Formula Student is a fantastic achievement to have on your C.V., as it shows future employers that you are able to be creative, take initiative, work as a team, and develop real-world skills.
In the motorsport industry, FS alumni include Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team Chief Race Engineer Andrew Shovlin, and former F1 strategy engineer and current Sky Sports strategy engineer Bernie Collins.
Even if you don’t want to work in motorsports, the skills you attain in our workshop can be applied to a wide variety of industries and team membership demonstrates employability.
